Wifi's are like wifies, if you have more than one they should never be next to each or all communication will be bad and everything is going to heck. What upload and download speeds to they get at the device? Download bandwidth is almost never an issue anymore. The gamer brains have trouble comprehending reality around this. A high resolution movie stream is about 5 mbps. If you have 300 mbps internet, you can stream 60 movies on 60 tv's at once. 5 mbps is more than adequate for gaming imo. You have 3 gamers? 3x5 = 15 mbps. You want to watch a movie at the same time? OK, 20 mbps. I'm guessing you have 10x that. So the question is whether your wifi is a bottleneck or allowing you to use your full bandwidth. Wifi in general does have a higher packet error rate, so by nature it's going to be more buggy than a wired connection. That's a valid complaint, and if you have a lot of interference (like say a second wifi router next to the one you're using), There will be more problems. I'd disable the wifi on the gateway to see if that's an instant improvement. Log into it and turn it off. This is a continuous sore subject as the step son keeps insisting we literally need 2 gig internet. Fact is there aren't any services out there that are going to send you enough data to take advantage of that. There are upload constraints on whomever you are downloading from. Basic example, but there are 130M online xbox users. to give everyone a 100 mbps stream Microsoft would have to have 13 petabyte per second internet dedicated just to xbox users and nothing else. No vendor out there can consistently send 100 mbps data out, so people thinking you need 1GB or 2GB are nuts as nothing can send you that much consistently. But that's not your dilemma. At most, gamers in theory could use up to like 25 mbps. So 3 gamers require 75 mbps, and you'll want 80 if you're trying to watch HD UM football previews at the same time. Nothing can be done about latency. Your distance to the telco fabric plays a part. It doesn't matter if you have 10 gbps internet, you'll have lag if it takes that high throughput time to travel farther. Are they playing games hosted in the cloud? That's always going to be a nightmare, especially taking into account latency. Every click of a button, direction you push your controller joystick, etc. has to travel all the way to the cloud before it's processed. In closing, see opening remarks.
